Holo polish

Hello! Today I have a new holographic polish to show you! In fact, it's also the first holographic polish that I've ever owned or worn on my nails. Haha, I've just never really had a chance to try them. So today's holographic polish is When Stars Collide which is from the China Glaze Hologram Holographic Spring Collection 2013. This colour is described as a warm maroon which I suppose means it has a red undertone. It tends to look a little more purple in some lightings though.

In indirect sunlight:

In indirect sunlight, the polish looks more purple and the holo effect is not very obvious and you can barely see the shimmer. You know while I was buying this polish, I heard a customer tell the salesperson that 'this collection very holo meh?!' which translates to 'this collection doesn't look very holo to me - I can barely see it.' And... I still continued along with my purchase. I'm not regretting because as you will see later, the holo is actually visible in bright light and it does look very pretty.

In bright artificial light:

Okay, this one looks warm maroon to me. And look at the holo!! Isn't it pretty? :)

Overall, this wasn't totally a fail holographic polish although there are definitely better ones out there. The formula was alright, I used two coats and a top coat. Maybe I'll get myself an OPI one to compare. Any OPI holo polishes to recommend?

Nail polish haul of the week

Morning!! So as you all know, I just started working part time... which means I'm earning and can afford to treat myself every now and then! By that I mean every week or every two weeks hehe :) For this week's nail polish haul, I got myself 3 bottles of polish and a bottle of Seche Restore for my thick and goopy Seche Vite top coat. I actually tried it immediately when I got home because I was so eager to restore my top coat and I was so happy to find that it actually works!! (I had my doubts) I was so impressed when my top coat became runny and easy to use again!

This was probably something like my reaction LOL.

From left to right: China Glaze Whirled Away, OPI Sprung, China Glaze When Stars Collide and Seche Restore.

Close-up bottle photos:

China Glaze Cirque Du Soleil: Worlds Away Collection. Whirled Away is black hex and bar glitter along with big white hex glitter in a clear base.

OPI Mariah Carey Collection. Sprung is described as a shimmery copper. I'm the most excited to use this colour!

China Glaze Hologram Holographic Spring Collection 2013. When Stars Collide is described as a warm maroon although it looks closer to purple to me. This is my first holographic polish so I'm pretty excited about this too :)

And that's all for my polish haul of the week! Maybe I'll start making this a weekly or fortnightly thing. What do you think? Are you excited to see any of these swatches first? :)

Inspirational tutorials

Hey all! This is gonna be a super quick post because I just wanted to share something.

I randomly came across this YouTube channel (link here: http://www.youtube.com/user/SimpleNailArtDesigns?feature=watch ) today with all these simple nail art designs as the YouTube name suggests. They're making me really, really excited right now because I feel so inspired to try a couple of them. I watched a couple of videos and yes, they were really simple and do-able that I, as a nail art newbie, think I can actually attempt them. The Puzzle tutorial and tribal tutorial were my two favourites that are now on my to-do list! Yes, I have a to-do list because I have so many things I want to try!

Anyway, just wanted to share this and I'll try to attempt them in the next few weeks so stay tuned :) No promises that they'll be perfect though!

Thanks A Windmillion with a dash of silver

Hello! So I finally have a break from work and I get to paint my nails. Oh painted nails how I have missed you so. Thank goodness I'm only working from Monday to Wednesday next week so I only have to see naked nails for 3 days. For today's mani, I've actually spent the last 4 days picking something new to try. I wanted to try everything from accent nails to saran wrap and even newspaper nails(yes, up till now I still have not attempted that) After much deliberation, I finally settled on doing a saran wrap manicure! I've attempted it once in the past on my toes when I was still schooling. For this mani, I used OPI Thanks A Windmillion and China Glaze Platinum Silver as the second colour. WARNING. The colour contrast is hard to see and almost non-existent in certain lightings but I have grown to like the subtle shine it gives the green base in the past few hours.

I actually like how certain angles you see more silver(shine) than others. It kinda looks like silver shatter to me too.

Overall, I like this combination! I didn't at first because I could barely see the contrast and was a bit disappointed with the results but I think the subtle-ness is what makes this so pretty! What do you think? Are you a fan of saran wrap manicures?

Glitter Rose

Hello all! Today I have China Glaze Avant Garden collection's Life Is Rosy to show you! I actually wore this over the weekend and removed it by Sunday night because I started working and we're not allowed to paint our nails except for neutral or french manicures :( Sad. Lucky I'm not working the whole week so I still have time to do my nails and show you all more pictures! I'm so excited for Friday (when my break for the week) starts. I have so many nail ideas to try that I'm actually afraid I can't pick one in time!

Okay, on to the pictures!

I actually really love this colour a lot, it's such a pretty pink that I think everybody can pull off. However, what I found a problem was that the polish was very thick. Thick polish together with not very big China Glaze brushes and I was afraid I wouldn't be able to spread out the polish over the whole nail before it started drying and I might not get a smooth surface. Lucky for me, as you can see, I successfully managed to get it smooth and fully covered although I felt each coat was quite thick. Here I used 2 coats. This polish actually dries with a very shiny and glossy finish and I think it could have definitely gone without top coat. The only reason I put top coat was because 2 thick coats would take very long to dry and I'm very impatient and prone to ruining half-wet manicures :/

I recently bought a new glitter polish! From Faceshop Face It collection. This is just called GL112. And I thought it would be a good idea to top my pretty pink nails.

Okay, so I think the glitter was too shiny and it reflected the light from my lamp so that's why there's a slight glare. But I really like this layering combination and will definitely try it again with black polish perhaps!

A Butterfly Moment

Hello all!

Today I have OPI A Butterfly Moment to show you! A Butterfly Moment is from the Mariah Carey collection and unfortunately, it was the only colour from the collection that caught my eye hence, this was all I bought. I initially thought the liquid sands would be interesting but after seeing other bloggers' swatches, I realised that I'm not particularly fond of textured polish so I'll be skipping out on that. Anyway, A Butterfly Moment was described as a sophisticated and frosty tan nude and that was quite true although under some lightings(bright, white light) it was more of a light pink.

This was under bright, white light so it's a pretty, light pink. I love how feminine this feels. It has a slight shimmer too but that wasn't very visible.

Under normal, outside light in the day, it looks nude. And with my tan skin it practically blends in!

But overall, this was a good polish and the colour is definitely easy to pull off! Coverage was good too and I only used 2 coats and one layer of topcoat. The good formula is actually tempting me to get the other colours in the collection, not including the liquid sands though. What do you think of the Mariah Carey collection? Do you have a favourite in the collection?

Split Personality?

Today I have one of the polishes from the China Glaze Transitions collection. Let's welcome Split Perso-nail-ity! This is a lovely, pretty dusty pink. But do forgive me, I was so caught up in admiring the gorgeous pink colour on my nails that I forget to try some nail art with my top coat :/ I'll be sure to do some swatches with top coat the next time I use this polish!

Split Perso-nail-ity under my lamp. It was a very hard colour to photograph, so this isn't exactly very colour accurate. It's a bit lighter and less purple in real life.

My second attempt. And then I gave up and went to my balcony.

In sunlight. This is more colour accurate, it looks like a more light and sweet pink on my nails.

I took this when I was on my way home. This is the most accurate photo thus, I had to show it and I'm so upset about that chip on my thumb nail but the colour here was so pretty I couldn't resist :X

Overall, I really love this polish and the China Glaze Transition collection looks pretty impressive. Definitely considering getting Modify Me and Duplicity! What do you think of this collection? Great idea for nail art newbies like me.

Six new polishes!

Hello! So today I have some new bottles of polish to show you all. I went shopping last Friday and bought some nail polish from the new collections that were released recently. I was also in luck because my friend bought me nail polish so it was a very happy nail polish day for me :)

Here I have two Nature Republic bottles, 3 China Glaze and 1 OPI. In the top row, there is APK204 and APP401. Both from Nature Republic. The 3 China Glaze polishes are all from their new collection Avant Garden. From left to right, Life Is Rosy, Fade Into Hue and Keep Calm, Paint On. The OPI A Butterfly Moment is from the Mariah Carey collection. I didn't get the liquid sands that a lot of people seem fond of because I'm not a fan of textured and matte nail polish although the colours did look quite pretty.

This is China Glaze Fade Into Hue. It's a very pretty pastel blue in the Pastel Petals part of the Avant Garden  Spring 2013 collection. I used two coats and a top coat and my polish actually didn't chip for the three days that I wore it.

Welcome to Nails and Colour~

Hello all!

So, I've finally worked up the courage to start my own nail blog after loyally following so many nail blogs for slightly more than a year. I've always liked the idea of being able to share my nails and love for nail polish with others but the thought of doing something like this was always a bit daunting. Well anyway, here I am! So let's get started.

I'll start with sharing some of my old nail photos.

Revlon Dreamer. A beautiful sky blue creme.

OPI Not So Bora-bora-ing Pink. One of my favourite pinks. It goes on very smoothly.

Here I used OPI Crown Me Already! on the tips of my nails. A very simple look and easy to do.

China Glaze Elephant Walk. I loved their Safari collection!

This is a very light gold polish, a bit greenish under some lightings although you can't see it here. It's Faceshop's Face It GL112. I like how classy and timeless this colour is.

And that's the end of my first post! I hope you enjoyed it because I certainly did! :)
